LAGOS, Nigeria β€” The Bible Society of Nigeria has approved a comprehensive budget of 1.07 billion Naira for the 2027 operational year to dramatically expand its local language translation projects and scale up its humanitarian intervention programs across the country. The financial roadmap was disclosed in an official statement signed by the BSN Manager of Media and Public Relations, Benjamin Mordi, on Friday. According to the organization, the newly approved budget of 1,070,302,800 Naira represents a significant 14 percent increase over the 943 million Naira budget utilized during the 2026 fiscal year, highlighting an aggressive push by the society to advance scripture accessibility despite ongoing macroeconomic pressures. Funding Grassroots Translations and Sign Language Inclusivity A major portion of the projected expenditure will be injected directly into preserving local heritage and broadening spiritual access through indigenous languages. The society has earmarked 216.6 million Naira to fund ongoing Bible translation projects at various stages of execution across Nigeria. Out of this allocation, 54.2 million Naira has been specifically set aside to support the Nigerian Sign Language Bible project, a highly specialized initiative designed to serve the deaf community. The BSN Chief Executive Officer and General Secretary, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, explained that apart from the heavily visual sign language project, which requires complex recording and digital production frameworks, it costs a minimum of 150 million Naira to successfully execute and complete a standard Bible translation project in any Nigerian language over a typical eight-year development window. The Macedonian Call and Humanitarian Relief Beyond its core linguistic work, the BSN is heavily matching its spiritual goals with physical outreach through a dedicated socio-economic support framework. The society has allocated 162.1 million Naira to its flagship intervention initiative, the Macedonian Call program. This humanitarian program delivers free copies of the Scriptures alongside essential relief materialsβ€”including foodstuffs, clothing, bedding, and educational packsβ€”to internally displaced persons camps, orphanages, and severely underserved communities nationwide. Pastor Sanusi revealed that the organization has already deployed 102 million Naira during the first quarter of the year to sustain baseline translation operations and community engagement initiatives.
