Craig Williams, the former Conservative Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire and a key parliamentary aide to then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, has pleaded guilty to charges of cheating at gambling. The plea was entered on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court. The case, centered on what has been dubbed the Gamblegate scandal, concerns the illegal use of confidential information regarding the timing of the 2024 General Election. Williams admitted to placing betsβ€”specifically Β£250, Β£100, and Β£22.50β€”on the July 4 election date after learning of the timing through his privileged access to meetings in Downing Street and at Conservative Party headquarters. Alongside Williams, Amy Hind, who was working for the NHS at the time of the offenses and is the wife of a former Conservative digital director, also pleaded guilty to the same charge of cheating, contrary to section 42(1)(a) of the Gambling Act 2005. Prosecutors highlighted the gravity of the breach, noting that Williams used highly sensitive information to seek personal profit rather than protecting the confidentiality of the process. While Williams has admitted to these specific offenses, the court heard that three additional cheating charges against him will be dropped upon sentencing.
