In a significant regulatory intervention, the Kano State Hisbah Board has moved to dismantle the localized mobile phone movie-sharing industry. The directive, announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, prohibits any form of movie downloading or distribution via mobile devices within the state.

The board’s decision stems from persistent community complaints regarding the circulation of pornographic films and other video content deemed offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural norms of Kano State. According to Dr. Aminuddeen, the proliferation of these materials has contributed to rising moral decadence among the youth, necessitating an immediate and state-wide crackdown.

Hisbah personnel have been fully mobilized to conduct routine patrols and enforcement operations across all 44 local government areas to ensure strict compliance. The board has issued a stern warning: any individuals found operating these services or facilitating the distribution of illicit content will face legal prosecution under the laws of Kano State.

The authorities have urged those currently earning a living through these mobile download services to transition to alternative, lawful occupations. This latest enforcement effort aligns with the board’s broader, ongoing strategy to sanitize the entertainment sector, which has recently included the closure of various entertainment centers and the censorship of content deemed contrary to the state’s societal identity.
