The innovative program is specifically designed to identify, equip, and empower young African civic leaders who are actively driving social change, community development, and public policy advocacy within their respective countries. Building Capacity for Structural Transformation The newly unveiled fellowship seeks to bridge the critical leadership gap on the continent by providing participants with world-class training, mentorship, and access to global networks. Speaking at the launch event held in Abuja on Friday, the Executive Director of LEAP Africa, Kehinde Ayeni, emphasized that investing in the next generation of civic actors is essential for unlocking Africa's true potential. Our goal is to build a critical mass of visionary, ethical, and creative leaders who can navigate complex socio-economic landscapes and deliver measurable progress to their communities, Ayeni stated, adding that the fellowship will focus heavily on system-level changes rather than short-term interventions. The comprehensive curriculum will be delivered over a six-month period, blending intensive virtual learning modules with hands-on project implementation and peer-to-peer collaboration. Strategic Themes and Global Collaboration The 2026 fellowship cycle will center around three core thematic pillars aimed at addressing the continent's most pressing contemporary challenges: Civic Engagement and Governance: Enhancing public accountability, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting inclusive political participation among marginalized groups. Social Innovation and Technology: Deploying digital tools, data analytics, and technological enablers to scale social impact and solve complex grassroots problems. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Designing and executing community-led projects that directly align with global benchmarks for poverty reduction, quality education, and climate action. To ensure the fellowship meets international standards, LEAP Africa is collaborating with several prominent global institutions, including the Ford Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development. These partnerships will grant fellows direct access to elite industry mentors, case studies of successful global movements, and potential seed funding opportunities to expand their local initiatives. Eligibility and Application Framework The application portal is officially open to young Africans aged between 20 and 35 who possess a proven track record of leadership and community service.
