Microsoft Releases New Windows 11 Setup and Recovery Updates
Microsoft has released a new batch of Setup and Recovery updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10 alongside its June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.
These updates, known as Dynamic Updates, are designed to improve the Windows installation and recovery process. They can be applied before deployment and help preserve language packs and optional features during upgrades.
For Windows 11, Microsoft released several updates targeting different versions of the operating system:
* **KB5095185** improves the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) for Windows 11 version 26H1, updating WinRE to version 10.0.28000.2269.
* **KB5094149** updates the recovery environment for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, bringing WinRE to version 10.0.26100.8655.
* **KB5095971** provides Setup improvements for Windows 11 version 23H2, updating files used during feature upgrades.
* **KB5094156** enhances the recovery environment for Windows 11 version 23H2, updating WinRE to version 10.0.22621.7219.
Microsoft also released recovery updates for Windows 10:
* **KB5098815** automatically applies recovery improvements to Windows 10 versions 21H2 and 22H2.
* **KB5094154** updates WinRE for Windows 10 versions 21H2 and 22H2 to version 10.0.19041.7417.
* **KB5094153** updates Windows 10 version 1809 and Windows Server 2019 to WinRE version 10.0.17763.8880.
* **KB5094152** updates Windows 10 version 1607 and Windows Server 2016 to WinRE version 10.0.14393.9234.
Dynamic Updates play an important role in maintaining system reliability during upgrades and recovery operations. They also help ensure that optional Windows components, such as Features on Demand, continue functioning correctly after major updates.
Microsoft says these Setup and Recovery updates are delivered automatically through Windows Update, meaning most users will receive them without any manual action.
