IBADAN – The Oyo State House of Assembly has formally commenced legislative proceedings on a 330 billion naira supplementary budget and realignment bill. The proposal, submitted by Governor Seyi Makinde, aims to provide additional funding for critical infrastructure projects and priority government programs as the administration enters its final phase. LEGISLATIVE SCRUTINY BEGINS During plenary on Wednesday, the bill passed its first and second readings following the presentation of an executive communication by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. The legislative action signals the start of detailed scrutiny by the House committees, which will review the specific funding requirements submitted by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). ACCELERATING INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT Governor Makinde’s proposal seeks to address financing gaps identified by MDAs to ensure the timely completion of major ongoing strategic projects. Key infrastructure initiatives slated for accelerated funding include: * The Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road. * The Ido-Eruwa Road. * The Airport-Ajia-New Ife Expressway. * The Saki-Igboho Road. * The Apete-Awotan-Akufo Junction Road. ALIGNMENT WITH SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT The supplementary budget is a core component of the state’s broader fiscal strategy, designed to align government spending with the Roadmap for Sustainable Development (2023–2027). The executive stated that the additional funding is essential to meet the administration's goal of finalizing legacy projects before the end of its current tenure. Following the second reading, the bill has been committed to the appropriate legislative committees for in-depth analysis and stakeholder consultation.
