Ubisoft has shared new details about *Rayman Legends Retold*, an ambitious remake of the 2013 platforming classic that brings the series into a 3D/2.5D world while laying the groundwork for Rayman’s future. In an interview, developers from Ubisoft Milan explained that the remake is intended to reintroduce Rayman to longtime fans while welcoming a new generation of players who may never have experienced the series. According to the team, *Rayman Legends* was chosen because of its highly regarded gameplay and rich world building. The developers felt the original game provided a strong foundation from which to rebuild and expand the franchise. The move to 3D was driven by a desire to create a greater sense of adventure and immersion. Developers said the new perspective allows for dynamic camera movement, more expressive characters, and environments that feel more alive. The project began in late 2023 at Ubisoft Montpellier, with Ubisoft Milan joining in early 2024. The two studios collaborated after realizing they shared similar ideas for the future of the series. Rather than creating an entirely new game first, the team viewed the remake as a way to establish a fresh starting point for the franchise. Developers hinted that additional Rayman projects may follow, though no specific announcements were made. Technically, the game uses two engines. The original UbiArt Framework helps preserve the feel and gameplay of the classic release, while Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine powers enhanced visuals and modern features such as improved lighting and environmental effects. The transition from 2D to 3D created several design challenges. Characters originally designed for flat artwork had to be rebuilt as fully three dimensional models while retaining their expressive animation styles. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is currently targeting **60 frames per second**, and Ubisoft says it aims to maintain content parity with other platforms. The company has not yet revealed final resolution details or platform specific features. Developers also confirmed that series creator Michel Ancel was consulted early in development but is not actively involved in the project’s creative direction. The remake introduces several additions beyond graphical upgrades. Players can expect interconnected worlds, dragon riding sequences, reworked hub areas, new music levels, and an entirely new realm featuring a new ending. Fan favorite minigame **Kung Foot** is also returning in an expanded form called **Kung Foot Evo**, featuring new mechanics, changing arenas, and power ups. When asked about Rayman potentially joining Nintendo’s *Super Smash Bros.* roster, the developers enthusiastically expressed support as fans of the series themselves. *Rayman Legends Retold* is scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, marking what Ubisoft describes as the beginning of a new era for Rayman.
