A Houston man, Christopher Cayce, 34, has been arrested and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury after allegedly targeting homeless and disabled individuals with a high-powered, motorized water gun and posting videos of the attacks on social media. The Houston Police Department disclosed the arrest in a statement Thursday, saying its Major Offenders Division, assisted by the Westside Crime Suppression Team, investigated multiple cases of vulnerable individuals being sprayed with the device with enough force to cause injury. Police said Cayce taunted his victims during the encounters before uploading footage of the attacks online. The charges filed relate specifically to an assault on two men on June 4, though investigators say Cayce's conduct dates back to at least the previous summer, with victims โ€” many near bus stops or sleeping outdoors in Houston's Midtown and Bissonnet areas โ€” targeted while unaware. Videos reviewed by local outlets showed Cayce driving through the city and firing the motorized gun at people's faces on the street or while they slept on the sidewalk; in one clip, he reportedly lured a woman to his car with money before spraying her, and in another threw food at a man before dousing him. Cayce posted bond at $100 per charge, totaling $200, and is due back in court July 9. Speaking to local broadcaster ABC13 after his release, he defended his actions, saying he prayed before each outing and that the water guns were set to their lowest power, while describing some of his video commentary referring to targets as "zombies" as content framing rather than a reflection of how he viewed them. He said he does not intend to continue the attacks, noting that police had confiscated his water guns. Investigators say the case is not isolated and that additional charges remain possible as the investigation continues.
