The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult member and recovered a locally made pistol during a stop-and-search operation in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area of the state, foiling what officers say was a planned attack. Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said operatives intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers, and a search turned up a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge in the possession of one occupant, identified as 27-year-old Yusuf Lamina Adigun. During preliminary interrogation, Adigun reportedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and disclosed that he and other cult members, who fled the scene and remain at large, were en route to attack unspecified individuals before police intercepted them. He remains in custody while efforts continue to track down the other suspects and recover any additional weapons in their possession. Lagos Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing aimed at combating cultism and other violent crime, and urged residents to continue providing timely information to help prevent such attacks. The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on cult activity across Lagos and neighboring states. Just a day earlier, Oyo State police arrested 11 suspected Eiye Confraternity members โ€” all reportedly students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology โ€” over an alleged plot to attack the campus, recovering firearms, ammunition and other weapons in the process.
