The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested 89 motorists for operating vehicles without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured plates, as part of a nationwide crackdown ordered by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed the figures in a statement Saturday, saying Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni had directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to intensify enforcement across the state. According to Babaseyi, coordinated operations conducted simultaneously across Ogun led to the interception of the 89 vehicles and their drivers, with the exercise designed to improve vehicle traceability, strengthen intelligence gathering and deny criminals the anonymity such violations can provide. He said appropriate administrative and legal action, including prosecution where necessary, had been initiated against the offenders, and warned that the crackdown would continue statewide. Beyond the traffic enforcement drive, the command also reported a breakthrough against violent crime. Operatives of the Ogere Police Division, working with the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, local vigilantes and residents, foiled an armed robbery at Akuro Phase I, Ogere Remo, on Friday, after gunmen invaded a residence and made off with two motorcycles, phones, cash and other valuables. A swift tactical response forced the suspects to abandon the stolen motorcycles and flee into nearby bush; one suspect, Abdulsalam Adam, was arrested and is assisting investigators, while a knife, an expended cartridge and a broken padlock were recovered as evidence. In a separate case, police in the Ajuwon Division responded to a July 2 robbery at Baale Akinosi Area, where hoodlums stole a Toyota Camry, a laptop, jewellery and other valuables. A pursuit forced the fleeing suspects to abandon the vehicle; one suspect, Israel Salako, was arrested and is assisting investigators, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover the stolen property. Commissioner Ojajuni commended the officers involved for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, visibility patrols and stop-and-search operations, urging residents to continue supplying credible information to support crime prevention efforts across the state.
